Arcadis selected to provide construction management for the Friant-Kern Canal Middle Reach Capacity Correction project

Major infrastructure project will restore critical water capacity in California's Central Valley.

FRESNO, Calif., Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Arcadis, a global design and consultancy organization for natural and built assets, today announced its selection by the Friant Water Authority to provide construction management services for phase 2A of the crucial Friant-Kern Canal Middle Reach Capacity Correction project. The Friant Water Authority estimates construction costs for Phase 2A between $80 and $98 million.

The Friant-Kern Canal is a 152-mile water conveyance facility that delivers water throughout California's Central Valley. Decades of land subsidence have reduced the canal's carrying capacity, limiting the amount of water that can be delivered to farms, communities and water districts that depend upon the system. The Middle Reach Capacity Correction Program was developed to restore lost capacity and improve long-term water reliability.

Phase 2A includes approximately 2.7 miles of new concrete-lined canal, canal tie-ins, siphons, utility relocations, roadway restoration and associated infrastructure improvements. The project is designed to restore critical water conveyance capacity while supporting regional groundwater sustainability and water reliability objectives. Arcadis will support delivery of the project through construction administration and field oversight of the canal, utility, roadway and structural improvements.

Girish Kripalani, Senior Vice President, California Sector Leader at Arcadis, said: "We are proud to support Friant Water Authority on this important program. Arcadis brings deep water-sector expertise together with established experience managing some of California's most complex infrastructure programs. This combination allows us to bring the right technical knowledge, program management capabilities and local relationships to help Friant advance its capital priorities and strengthen water reliability for communities, agricultural users and water agencies throughout California's Central Valley."

Ramin Massoumi, Global Transportation Industry Executive at Arcadis, said: "Friant Water Authority is undertaking an important investment in the future of the Central Valley, and we are excited to support them. Arcadis' extensive water capabilities, complemented by our experience delivering large and complex infrastructure programs, position us to bring integrated resources, established delivery practices and global expertise to Friant's program. This award reflects our commitment to helping clients successfully deliver critical infrastructure and achieve lasting outcomes for the communities they serve."
