Archbishop to Receive American Religious Freedom Award at National Religious Freedom Conference
WASHINGTON, May 22, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore will receive the American Religious Freedom Award on Thursday, May 24, for his gracious-but-vigorous defense of religious liberty in the face of increasing hostility and legal and policy challenges. Archbishop Lori will be presented with the American Religious Freedom award at the closing ceremony of the National Religious Freedom Conference, "Rising Threats to American Religious Freedom" in Washington, D.C. The conference will be hosted by the Ethics and Public Policy Center's American Religious Freedom Program.
Archbishop Lori will receive the award before a diverse assembly of about 200 religious leaders, elected officials, and federal and state policy experts. In addition to discussing the announcement and plans for new Religious Freedom Caucuses in the 50 state legislatures, the conference will educate participants about the current wave of threats against religious rights and the need to build a coordinated force in individual states to stop the accelerating erosion of religious freedoms.
