STOCKHOLM, Sept. 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Arelion today announced it has launched a second fully diverse dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) route from Querétaro to Monterrey, Mexico, enabling it to support the booming AI and cloud markets in the country. This expansion enhances resilience as Arelion's second completely underground fiber route between the regions, connecting Mexico's leading digital hubs to Arelion's AI superhighway in Latin America. The route also provides high-availability connectivity to thriving technology markets in Texas via McAllen and Laredo, supporting wholesale and enterprise customers with reliable access to Arelion's full ecosystem of AI, content and cloud applications.
Arelion's newly constructed route delivers the high-capacity, low-latency performance enterprises need to operate data-intensive applications and scale easily as bandwidth demands grow. Powered by the latest C+L band open optical line systems and next-generation 400G/800G coherent pluggable optics, it enables Arelion to meet the AI and cloud application needs of end users in Querétaro and across Central Mexico. Arelion's latest route continues its ongoing network expansion in Latin America to foster economic growth and digital transformation, supporting nearshoring, financial services, manufacturing, gaming, content streaming and other rapidly growing industries. Arelion's customers now have enhanced access to low-latency IP Transit, scalable Wavelengths, 100G Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL), Cloud Connect and other seamless global connectivity services amid significant technological market growth in Querétaro and Monterrey.
Home to 15 percent of Mexico's data centers, totaling over $2 billion in investments, Querétaro is leading Mexico's data center expansion due to its strategic location. The region currently hosts nearly 95 megawatts of commissioned power, with experts projecting it will soar to 700 megawatts to support major hyperscale campuses. Monterrey is experiencing similar growth as a key technology hub close to Texas, with commissioned power estimated to double in the coming years.
This investment positions Arelion to support high-availability, low-latency edge inferencing for companies' AI applications and to offer additional options for managed optical fiber networking (MOFN) services facilitating high-bandwidth, interregional data flows. In recognition of its continuous network expansion to serve Latin American markets, Arelion was recently named a finalist in the "Outstanding Use Case: Bridging the Digital Divide" category in Light Reading's 2025 Leading Lights Awards. Arelion's new route will go live in early Q1 2026.
With this expansion, Arelion now operates ten regional PoPs in Mexico, including:
- One PoP in San Luis Potosi at Neutral Network's site
- Two PoPs in Querétaro that serve Equinix's MX1 and KIO Networks' QRO sites
- Two PoPs in Mexico City operating in KIO Networks' MEX2 and MEX5 data centers
- One PoP in Mérida, located at AiTelecom's data center
- Two PoPs in Monterrey, serving Equinix's MO1 site and Neutral Networks Pabellón M
- One PoP in Guadalajara at HostDime's GDL data center
- One PoP at Neutral Networks' Tijuana site
"Mexico's AI and cloud sectors are experiencing substantial growth, in turn driving strong demand for terabit-scale Waves and reliable IP services to support emerging applications," said Edison De Leon, Regional Director of Latam & Caribbean at Arelion. "With this expansion, Arelion now offers two fully diverse, entirely underground routes between the technology hubs of Querétaro and Monterrey, enabling us to connect wholesale and enterprise customers to our AI superhighway as they increasingly deploy data-intensive applications."
