Kansas City Business Journal ranks Leavenworth-based Armed Forces Bank second-strongest among banks with $1 billion or more in assets
FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan., May 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Armed Forces Bank – a full-service military bank committed to serving those who serve since 1907 – has been named the second-strongest large bank in the Kansas City area.
Armed Forces Bank – founded and headquartered in Fort Leavenworth – is ranked number two in financial strength among banks with $1 billion or more in assets by the Kansas City Business Journal. The widely respected business publication recognized Armed Forces Bank for its healthy 71.41% loan-to-deposit ratio and core-capital ratio of 14.26%, which was the "strongest in the top five." The Business Journal also includes that Armed Forces Bank has more than $170 million in equity capital and noted that 81.42% of the bank's deposits are covered by the FDIC.
"Armed Forces Bank maintains exceptionally strong capital and liquidity positions, with capital levels significantly exceeding the regulatory threshold for well-capitalized banks," said Paul Holewinski, CEO of Armed Forces Bank and Dickinson Financial Corporation. "Our unwavering focus on safety and stability, while maintaining a well-diversified deposit base, is at the core of how we operate. We are honored by this recognition as it reflects the strength of our consistent, disciplined management approach and brings about a strong sense of security for our customers."
In its analysis, the Business Journal reviewed the 2024 year-end FDIC data of every bank with a presence in Kansas City. The strongest bank ranking criteria consisted of eight categories in the order of importance: problem-loan ratio, Texas ratio, core-capital ratio, loan-to-deposit ratio, estimated percentage of insured deposits, equity capital, income and total loans and leases.
This recognition highlights Armed Forces Bank's strong financial foundation and its capability to offer a secure and dependable place to manage funds, even in challenging economic times.
In addition to this honor, Armed Forces Bank was recently named "Distinguished Bank of the Year" by the U.S. Military for its extraordinary contributions to financial well-being of military families and veterans. And Armed Forces Bank was the only bank this year to earn the Veterans Saves "Community Impact Award," as well as one of only four banks nationally to be given the "Designation of Savings Excellence." These two honors from the Consumer Federation of America are the nation's only awards focused on helping veterans improve financial stability. Armed Forces Bank has earned the Designation of Savings Excellence 10 times over the course of 12 years.
"The consistent recognition over the course of many years reflect our fiscal strength, as well as our steadfast commitment to meeting the distinct needs of military service members and their families," adds Holewinski. "Wherever they are stationed or deployed around the world, Armed Forces Bank remains dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of service members by delivering the best banking solutions and financial guidance."
