HORSHAM, Pa., Nov. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of National Sandwich Day, Arnold®, Brownberry® and Oroweat® breads have revealed Deborah Biggs from Omaha, Nebraska as the $25,000 Grand Prize Winner in the second annual "America's Better Sandwich™" Contest for her Green Goddess Chicken Sandwich.
"I entered the 'America's Better Sandwich™' Contest because I enjoyed the challenge of creating a 'better-for-you' sandwich that tasted great and appealed to all sandwich lovers, including my husband of 23 years who is my number one taste tester," said Deborah Biggs, Grand Prize Winner of the "America's Better Sandwich™" Contest. "I personally enjoy eating nutritiously and for me that has always meant eating whole grain breads. The wide variety of breads Oroweat® has offered over the years has kept me coming back for more and I couldn't be happier that my winning sandwich is affiliated with Oroweat® breads."
The new Healthfull® Nuts & Seeds bread served as a starting point and inspiration for Biggs' flavorful creation as she wanted all elements of her sandwich to pay homage to a main ingredient in the bread- sunflower seeds. Biggs rose to the top of the "Love, Healthfully" sandwich category and ultimately claimed the Grand Prize by combining ingredients like mashed avocado, chopped broccoli florets, grated lime zest, fresh tarragon, vibrant sunflower shoots and shredded chicken breast.
The "2015 America's Better Sandwich™" Contest offered Americans the opportunity to submit their original sandwich recipes into five different categories. The highest scoring recipes in each category were deemed Category Winners and were determined by criteria such as taste, creativity, nutritional analysis and consumer votes. Each Category Winner will be awarded $5,000 and include:
- "Love, Healthfully" category winner: Deborah B. (Omaha, NE) for her Green Goddess Chicken Sandwich
- "Fueling Good" category winner: Rachel W. (Manningotn, WV) for her Chicken and the Egg Power Snack
- "Creative Classic" category winner: Edwina G. (Hayden, ID) for her Thai Sweet Chili Chicken Sandwiches
- "Open-Face Artistry" category winner: Patrice H. (Bemidji, MN) for her Confetti Shrimp Toast with Bean Basil Pate
- "Breakfast in Bread" category winner: Kadija B. (Boca Raton, FL) for her Caribbean Tomato-Pumpkin Breakfast Sandwich
For every eligible recipe submitted during the entry period, and for every vote cast during the voting period, Arnold®, Brownberry® and Oroweat® will donate a loaf of bread (up to 100,000 loaves) to Feeding America, its official charitable partner.
