ArtPalmBeach Contemporary Art Fair Returns for Its 22nd Year
Announcing Guest Curator and New Pavilions
MIAMI, Nov. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- ArtPalmBeachContemporary Art Fair announces Erich Weiss will be this year's guest curator of the fair's influential new pavilions for art video, design and art performances. Weiss is currently the curator at large at Barcelona's Picasso Museum, Rotterdam Institute: Museum for Architecture, Design & Digital Culture, as well as an art critic and curator specializing in Dada and Surrealism.
FLOW pavilion is dedicated to historically important video art from the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as cutting-edge animation. Featuring videos from the private collection of Elayne Mordes of WhiteSpace Contemporary, the pavilion will display a variety of short experimental films from the 80s and 90s by icons Peter Fischli, David Weiss, Bruce Nauman, Hans Op de Beeck and Christian Marclay alongside art animation featuring new technologies. Also, on view will be "Housed Memory", a comprehensive 9-hour video by Uriel Orlow of the entire collection of London's Wiener Library - the world's first and most extensive Holocaust archive.
DESIGN pavilion will showcase an extensive Scandinavian exhibit featuring functional art in the form of furniture, décor, glass and architecture. DESIGN aims to satisfy the demand for high-end collectible designs while broadening awareness of Nordic contemporary art.
The 2019 guest performance artist selected by Weiss will be Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, a Danish visual artist performing, Tow With the Flow, which explores the western world's uninhibited obsession with textiles and fashion and its negative impact on the world's environment. Rasmussen uses themes from the UN Global 2030 Goals Manifest to shed light on the importance of environmental sustainability through poetry, music and interpretative performances.
Ahead of the fair, organizer Lee Ann Lester says, "ArtPalmBeach aims to bring together young and experienced collectors while promoting a dynamic environment that truly embodies South Florida's contemporary art community."
Organizers David and Lee Ann Lester are leaders in the South Florida art community, producing over 120 trendsetting and contemporary art fairs since founding Art Miami in 1991.
