ATLANTA, Dec. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital retail experience agency MaxMedia, the industry's leading voice of retail transformation through emotionally-targeted, digital shopper experiences, has announced specifics around its forthcoming Labathon Challenge on January 19, 2017. The hackathon-style event, a first for the retail experience market, will host 20 students across four teams in MaxMedia's Retail Lab to encourage the development of innovative experiences that support the future of brick-and-mortar retail.
Applications are due by December 16, with participants to be selected and notified by December 30. Interested students can apply here.
The Labathon Challenge, conceived as part of MaxMedia's 20thanniversary celebration, is most notable for its commitment to ongoing education for local higher ed students. A winning team will be selected at the closing reception and awarded $5,000 in scholarships toward continuing education. This spirit aligns with MaxMedia's 20-year commitment to hiring local talent across multiple disciplines, including animation, design, and creative development.
"Our commitment to the future of retail is, in part, predicated on discovering new talent that will serve as the industry's next innovators," said Keelhn Wheeler, CEO, MaxMedia. "We're looking for a variety of student talent, whether he or she possesses a particular skillset or is considered a Jack-or-Jill-of-all-trades."
Student teams will be provided access to all tools and technologies available in the MaxMedia Retail Lab, a unique space that provides visitors a chance to experience new technologies applied within a retail context. Its simulated retail environments support MaxMedia's ongoing research and development across technologies and in-store design strategies that help retailers create emotionally-charged retail experiences at scale. The company employs a team of creative designers, behavioral scientists, and other specialists to conduct research and testing within the lab.
Guest speakers and activities, to be announced at a later date, will be scheduled throughout the night to re-energize students during the 20-hour event as they collaboratively develop their digital retail experience solutions.
