Atlanta High School Students Graduate From Community Health Worker Training Program

ATLANTA, Aug. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Teaching communities to actively engage in their own health care is the purpose of the Morehouse School of Medicine's (MSM) Community Health Worker (CHW) Training Program. MSM will hold a graduation for the Atlanta-area high school students who completed the summer intensive training, as well as celebrating the work of all community health workers at CHW Appreciation Day on Saturday, August 5, 2017.

WHAT:
MSM marks the completion of their summer Pipeline program, High School Community Health Worker (CHW) Training Program, with a graduation celebration. The month-long intensive training program taught high school students how they can impact health equity in their community. The students will continue to meet throughout the school year to monitor the health of family and community members as well as to implement community- and school-based health projects. The celebration will also feature a Community Projects Shark Tank where students will pitch their ideas to community and health leaders. The program was made possible in part through MSM's partnership with the United Health Foundation, and grants from ARCHI, United Way, WellCare, Piedmont Health, Grady Health and private donors.

WHO:
Nearly two dozen students from six Atlanta area high schools—Mays, Banneker, McClarin, Tri-Cities, KIPP Collegiate, and Washington high schools.

MSM President and Dean Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice will also be present to deliver the welcome.
