Atria Senior Living's A Dash and a Dollop Honored With Nationally-Recognized Award

LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Atria Senior Living's 2011 recipe book, A Dash and a Dollop, is being honored with a Bronze Independent Publisher Book Award (IPPY), an award known for recognizing excellence in a broad range of subjects and honoring the year's best independently published books. Atria representatives will be recognized and receive the award tonight as part of the 16th Annual IPPY Awards ceremony and reception in New York City.

A Dash and a Dollop is a collection of more than 130 recipes--and the memories associated with each--from Atria residents and employees across the nation. Atria residents ranging in age from 69 to 106 contributed recipes and shared stories of how the recipe came to be an important part of their family customs, traditions and legacies. Every Atria resident received a complimentary copy of the book during the 2011 holiday season.

The IPPYs are the largest, most famous book award for independently published titles, and are intended to bring increased recognition to the thousands of exemplary independent, university and self-published titles each year. Since the inaugural contest in 1996, more than 4,500 books have received IPPY Awards. Notable past authors honored with an IPPY include Anne Geddes, Seth Goden and Dave Eggers.  

This year's winners were selected from more than 4,800 print book entries and almost 400 e-book entries, the most the organization has ever received. Winners in 69 national and 22 regional categories will receive gold, silver and bronze medallions and foil seals for their book covers. Atria's A Dash and a Dollop will be honored with a Bronze IPPY in the Independent Book Publisher's national cookbook category. Several Atria residents and employees will accept the award on the company's behalf, including Gladys Goldberg, a resident of Atria Cutter Mill in New York. Goldberg's recipe for carrot cake with cream cheese frosting is included in the book.

"I grew up in a time when families lived close together," said Goldberg. "I visited the homes of many relatives and we had good times with food and homemade goodies. While in junior high, I was in a cooking class, and so when I got married, I was no novice to cooking and baking. How good to have a book like A Dash and a Dollop that brings back so many memories."
