The organization recommends utilizing an exercise and balance program on a consistent basis and encourages seniors to get their hearing and vision tested annually. Health care providers can help determine the risk of a fall and physicians or pharmacists can assist seniors by discussing which medications and side effects can increase the risk of falling.

The NCOA also stresses that preventing falls is not the sole responsibility of seniors.
