Attention Veterans: New Medtech Job Training Program Accepting Applications through Friday, August 31

WASHINGTON, Aug. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Medical Technology Veterans Program (MVP) Boot Camp for Returning Heroes, a new year-long program to help military veterans find jobs in the medical technology (medtech) industry, is recruiting qualified veterans from around the U.S. seeking internships or full-time jobs. The training and mentorship program—open to all veterans, with special consideration to those injured or disabled while serving—was created to help returning service members make the transition to careers in the medical device and diagnostic industries. Gulf War-era II veterans face an unemployment rate of 12.1 percent. The innovative medtech industry—which continues to thrive and boasts a variety of job functions with tremendous potential for career advancement at pay levels that are generally above the national average—offers significant employment opportunities. The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) is leading an initiative to help the next generation of returning service members make successful transitions into medical technology careers with the MVP program.

The year-long program begins with a three-day event in Boston that includes an opening reception and dinner on Sept. 30, the MVP Boot Camp on Oct. 1 and attendance at AdvaMed 2012: The MedTech Conference on Oct. 2. During the training, 25 MVP Heroes from across the country will learn about careers in the medtech industry—including positions in manufacturing, design and engineering, and sales—and receive personalized career development coaching, job-search assistance, resume advice/interview training, skill translation and networking opportunities. MVP Heroes also will be paired with industry mentor – veterans who work at medical device and diagnostic companies – who will provide advice and guidance throughout the transition process. Participants will receive lodging, meals and complimentary registration for the MedTech Veterans Program and AdvaMed 2012: The MedTech Conference and will be reimbursed up to $500 in travel costs.

The MVP program is led by Michael Minogue, chairman, president and CEO of Abiomed and chairman of AdvaMed's Emerging Growth Company Council, and Kevin Blanchard, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran now working for the American Legion. Kevin earned a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal for his service in Iraq.

This training program gives veterans access to industry executives, HR representatives and mentors. The MVP Boot Camp is not a job fair and does not guarantee employment in the medtech industry upon completion. After completing this intensive program, MVP Heroes will have a thorough understanding of the opportunities available in the industry, gain meaningful connections and a strong professional network, and will be better prepared for exciting careers in medical technology.
