Attevo Focuses on Shelfware Problem With Services Reseller Program
CLEVELAND, June 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- During the 1990s and continuing into the 21st century, companies raced to equip themselves with information system technology as a means to improve productivity, profitability and competitive advantage. Computer hardware and software vendors enjoyed record revenue growth as companies large and small embraced these new and essential business tools.
In their zeal to equip their companies with computer technology, many IT managers succumbed to both the ease of installation and performance expectation promises of the software suppliers. This situation in combination with aggressive volume licensing discounts offered by the software vendors resulted in the coining of the term "shelfware." Simply put, shelfware is software that has been only marginally configured for use or software that is not used or needed at all and may even be sitting on a shelf in a storage room.
It is unclear how much software falls in the shelfware category, however a recent industry poll indicated that U.S. companies spend over $12.3 billion annually on the maintenance costs alone associated with shelfware subscriptions. This number is undoubtedly low as IT managers are reluctant to admit to these oversights.
The shelfware phenomenon occurs for multiple reasons. The complexity of systems, changing company priorities, overly aggressive implementation timelines and the lack of deployment expertise are commonly referenced causes. And all too frequently, purchased software simply does not meet projected capabilities.
Cleveland-based Attevo, Inc., a business professional services consultancy with a focus on large, enterprise-class computing environments, is coming to the rescue of corporations and value-added software resellers who lack the knowhow, technical savvy and certifications needed to fully deploy complex software systems. While many software development companies can and do perform complex implementations of their own systems, the focus of their relationships with customers can be on selling additional software packages at the expense of complete and successful implementations. Therefore, many user companies prefer using a third-party systems integrator with the required expertise who can remain agnostic regarding specific vendor solutions as there are typically a number of viable software vendor alternatives that can fit the need.
Through Attevo's Services Reseller Program, value-added resellers (VARs) lacking the internal resources can partner with Attevo to deliver implementation services to their enterprise-class customers. In this arrangement, the VAR's customer relationships are not compromised because Attevo's Reseller agreement forbids poaching of clients while offering seamless integration services with a financial incentive for the VAR.
According to Mark Mahovlich, Attevo's Director of Channel Sales, "It's a simple question of economics. The type of services offered by Attevo requires a highly-trained staff. The average technology reseller cannot afford to hire and retain these competent resources for 2 to 3 implementations that they may sell annually. By reselling Attevo services, VARs can offer their clients enhanced value, open new opportunities and make a profit." Attevo's full-time professionals have referenceable expertise in data loss prevention, master data management, data architecture, business intelligence, mobility computing, program management and strategic information planning.
