AUSTIN ISD SELECTS HELLAS TO INSTALL MATRIX HELIX BLEND SYNTHETIC FIELDS & TRACKS

AUSTIN, Texas, March 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Hellas, A TenCate Company, is honored to announce that it has been selected to install synthetic turf and tracks in the Austin Independent School District (AISD). The installation will begin with LBJ and Northeast Early College High Schools, marking the start of a transformative initiative funded by the $2.44 billion bond passed by Travis County voters in 2022. This bond proposal aims to enhance safety, ensure equity, benefit all campuses, and address affordability in Austin schools.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at LBJ Early College High School in East Austin, with Hellas representatives in attendance to celebrate this significant milestone. At the groundbreaking, Austin ISD Superintendent Matias Segura stated, "We must continue to invest in our public schools to ensure every child in Austin ISD has access to high-quality education. This initiative intends to enhance our facilities and ensure these spaces truly reflect the needs of our students when they open in 2028."

Randy Bryant, principal of LBJ Early College High School, emphasized the importance of these upgrades: "These improvements will enhance the level of competition for our student-athletes and enable them to perform at their highest ability."

LBJ Early College High School recently made headlines in 2021 by becoming the first AISD football team to reach the state finals since 1973, showcasing the commitment of its athletes and coaches under head coach Jahmal Fenner.

Hellas will install Matrix Helix^® Blend Turf, which combines the extremely durable and resilient Helix^® monofilament fibers with ultra durable XPS fibrillated tape fiber by TenCate. The Helix fibers feature Shape Memory Technology, which twists the monofilament fibers in a helix shape so that they spring back with use and secure the infill in place.
