SAN FRANCISCO, May 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile telematics company Driveway Software, Inc. announced today that Mike Slattery has joined its team as Executive Vice President of Product and Operations. Driveway developed and patented the first purely smartphone-based technology that helps drivers improve their driving skills and helps insurers reduce risk with better pricing data, making usage based insurance (UBI) scalable and cost-effective for the first time.
With an impressive background in developing and launching UBI products, Slattery has unique insights to the services and support insurers need to build successful telematics programs. He will help evolve Driveway's industry-leading smartphone telematics technology into the most compelling connected auto insurance experience in the industry.
Among his notable accomplishments, Slattery developed and launched a telematics based teen safety program, Safeco's Teensurance, recognized as a 2007 Top-10 In-Vehicle Innovation.
After Safeco was acquired by Liberty Mutual Insurance, he developed an innovative OBD-based accident forgiveness program that recycled OBD plug-in devices making large-scale deployments cost effective. Next, Mike Slattery went to The Hartford where he launched TrueLane, another personal lines UBI program that quickly scaled across several states.
Most recently with AAA Club Partners as SVP of Innovation, Strategy and Connected Car, Mike Slattery designed and delivered market-ready telematics programs that joined UBI with value-added services to make vehicle ownership more convenient and enjoyable while building deeper more engaging relationships with policyholders.
"Mike Slattery knows insurance. While Driveway was developing the world's first smartphone telematics technology, Slattery was developing the first large-scale UBI deployments in the US. Driveway's vision is to develop the most innovative, engaging and frictionless customer experience in the connected insurance space. Slattery is uniquely qualified to get us there," said Driveway CEO Mike Simmons.
Driveway invented Smartphone UBI. Based in Silicon Valley, Driveway developed and patented the technology that enables insurers to measure and reward good driving behavior without the need for a plug-in device in the car. The company provides a turnkey, smartphone+cloud platform to deliver a cost-effective and frictionless UBI experience, which turns ordinary drivers into safe drivers and helps insurers find and reward them. On its sixth generation software platform, Driveway has the most mature technology and the most experienced team in the smartphone telematics space.
