Aviat Networks Helps Ameren Illinois Employees Stay in Constant Communication

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Aviat Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVNW), a leading expert in wireless transmission solutions, today announced that it has been selected to work with URS Corporation to upgrade and expand the Ameren Illinois private communications network. Ameren Illinois is a subsidiary of Ameren Corp, an energy company, which provides electric and natural gas services to customers in Illinois and Missouri.

Ameren Illinois employees serve 1.2 million electric and 840,000 gas customers in Illinois, across 43,700 square miles. Keeping field employees in constant communication is mission critical, especially during periods of severe weather that can wreak havoc on a utility's operations. Therefore, a key requirement for upgrading its legacy communications network to address Ameren Illinois' growth and provide for future expansion was that the project could not interfere with day-to-day operations. Aviat Network's turnkey solution and flexible Ethernet platform will leverage the existing Ameren Illinois network while minimizing disruptions and reducing expenses.

Aviat Networks will implement its Network Management Solution, along with other technology, in phases beginning this year and continuing through 2014. All of the solutions were designed to integrate seamlessly with third-party OEM equipment in the existing Ameren Illinois TDM network. Once complete, migration from TDM to an Ethernet platform will provide Ameren Illinois with significant growth capacity and flexibility for years to come.
