Aviation Enthusiasts Can Obtain Free Tickets for Learn to Fly Day, May 15
Activities are available at 289 flight schools and organizations throughout the nation
NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Pilot Journey.com encourages anyone interested in aviation to test their wings for free at flight schools across the nation on Learn to Fly Day (http://www.LearnToFlyDay.com), May 15.
Learn to Fly Day is an event designed to encourage, educate, and inspire anyone interested in flying. More than 289 flight schools and organizations across the country will be offering tours and presentations that explain the possibilities for pursuing aviation as a new hobby or career.
To obtain free tickets to a flight school in their area, or to learn more, interested individuals can visit http://www.LearnToFlyDay.com or call the Learn to Fly Day hotline at (800) 399-6144 for more information.
"Cost is also not the issue; there's a stereotype that flying an airplane is only for the rich, but that's not the case, especially with the sport pilot certificate," says Gary Bradshaw, owner of Pilot Journey.
Prospective pilots can obtain many FAA certifications, including a commercial, private, or a sport pilot's license. "Earning the sport pilot license can cost as little as $3,500, and aircraft are easily available for rent," says Bradshaw. The majority of pilots do not own their own airplane. Instead, flying clubs and flight schools allow pilots to schedule and rent a plane, reducing the cost of flying.
As a companion event to Learn to Fly Day, Michael Combs is flying from Salina, Kan. to 135 stops in all 50 states over 40 days, starting April 5. Called the "Flight for the Human Spirit," Combs' voyage is intended to inspire others to follow their dreams. He will be setting at least six world records in the most technologically advanced light sport aircraft from Remos.
"Both events will offer first-hand experiences that will help potential pilots understand why people have been inspired by flight ever since the Wright brothers," says Bradshaw.
