Bacon Bash Texas To Give Away $35,000+ In Scholarships To Kids With Type 1
HAMILTON, Texas, Nov. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Bacon Bash Texas, a Texas-based 501(c)3 organization, plans to distribute over $35,000 in camp and Dexcom Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) scholarships to children with Type 1 Diabetes. Scholarship applications are available at www.baconbashtexas.com with 2017 application deadlines set for the end of November and December 2016.
Bacon Bash hosts two scholarship opportunities for children with Type 1 Diabetes. The first supplies scholarships to send children with Type 1 to diabetes camps focused on instilling healthy habits in campers while connecting them with other children with diabetes. The second scholarship provides funding for Dexcom CGM Systems which allow remote monitoring of a Type 1 patient's glucose levels and automatically alerts a parent when levels become dangerous.

Remaining event proceeds for children with Type 1 will be donated to national diabetes research through Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Bacon Bash Texas hosts two fundraising events each year - a bacon cook-off and a more formal event called Ball of the Bash. The Bacon Bash Texas cook-off is a hosted each October. Six hundred pounds of bacon were served at this year's event while raising $40,000 for supported charities. Ball of the Bash is a five course wine dinner with each course featuring a different bacon dish. This year, 120 attendees enjoyed the evening and raised $17,500 for supported charities.
Bacon Bash Texas also supports Niki Warms the Cold, an organization that distributes coats and blankets each winter to homeless people across the state of Texas. Bacon Bash hosts a coat and blanket drive at their October event in addition to donating a portion of event proceeds to help purchase additional winter gear for the homeless.
Bacon Bash Texas raised $105,650 in 2016. That total includes proceeds from the Bacon Bash cook-off, Ball of the Bash, and clothing donation totals, bringing the organization's lifetime total raised for charity to $180,650. Charitable proceeds are distributed to both Type 1 scholarship funds, national diabetes research, and Niki Warms the Cold.
