Baker Hughes Announces October 2011 Rig Counts

HOUSTON, Nov. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Baker Hughes Incorporated (NYSE: BHI) announced today that the international rig count for October 2011 was 1,197, up 23 from the 1,174 counted in September 2011, and up 98 from the 1,099 counted in October 2010. The international offshore rig count for October 2011 was 312, up 8 from the 304 counted in September 2011 and up 7 from the 305 counted in October 2010.  

The last report of rig activity in Libya was for February 2011.

The US rig count for October 2011 was 2017, up 39 from the 1,978 counted in September 2011 and up 349 from the 1,668 counted in October 2010.  The Canadian rig count for October 2011 was 508, down 2 from the 510 counted in September 2011 and up 110 from the 398 counted in October 2010.

The worldwide rig count for October 2011 was 3,722 up 60 from the 3,662 counted in September 2011 and up 557 from the 3,165 counted in October 2010.

The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets.  Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity.  Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.

North American rig count data is scheduled to be released at noon central time on the last working day of each week.  The international rig count is scheduled to be released on the 5th working day of the month.  Additional detailed information on the Baker Hughes rig counts is available from our website.
