Baker Hughes Announces October 2013 Rig Counts

HOUSTON, Nov. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Baker Hughes Incorporated (NYSE: BHI) announced today that the international rig count for October 2013 was 1,315, up 31 from the 1,284 counted in September 2013, and up 56 from the 1,259 counted in October 2012. The international offshore rig count for October 2013 was 316, up 3 from the 313 counted in September 2013, and up 10 from the 306 counted in October 2012. 

The average U.S. rig count for October 2013 was 1,744, down 16 from the 1,760 counted in September 2013, and down 90 from the 1,834 counted in October 2012. The average Canadian rig count for October 2013 was 378, down 9 from the 387 counted in September 2013, and up 13 from the 365 counted in October 2012.

The worldwide rig count for October 2013 was 3,437, up 6 from the 3,431 counted in September 2013, and down 21 from the 3,458 counted in October 2012.

The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets.  Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity.  Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
