Ballast Nedam to Build Hospital Nobo Otrabanda
in Curaçao
Last week the development foundation for the Netherlands Antilles SONA (Stichting
Ontwikkeling Nederlandse Antillen) reached financial close for the construction of
Hospital Nobo Otrabanda (HNO) in Curacao. This makes the design & construct contract with
Ballast Nedam final, upon which the construction phase of the new hospital can start.
Following an international tender Ballast Nedam was selected preferred bidder
mid-2012, based on the most economical bid. Subsequently, at the beginning of this year
Ballast Nedam signed a contract with SONA. In August 2013, the government of Curacao
referred the project to an alternate location in the district Otrabanda. After an
intensive location study, financial close has now been reached. The contract has a value
of over 108 million euros ($ 135.6 million).
In this project Ballast Nedam co-operates with its local partner of Curacao
OeverZaaijerLyongo architects, EGM architects from Dordrecht and the advisor for the
technical installations Valstar Simonis. The hospital will have 300 beds and a size of
approximately 40,000 m2. An underground parking facility for 535 cars is also included.
During the first quarter of 2014, the plans will be developed further into a final
design. The hospital will be technically completed on 31 December 2016.
Ballast Nedam engages in integrated projects in The Netherlands in four areas of work:
housing, mobility, energy and nature. Within this area we focus on the niche markets:
industrial construction, offshore wind turbines, secondary raw materials and alternative
fuels. In a number of areas of expertise, we also operate internationally. The Ballast
Nedam share is included in the Amsterdam Small Cap Index (AScX) of NYSE Euronext.
Ballast Nedam's approach is based on life cycle thinking and acting: we develop,
construct, manage and recycle. We are involved in long-term management, maintenance and
operation of projects and organize financial feasibility. Our supply and specialized
companies deliver competitive edge through innovation, cost leadership and purchasing
strength. Ballast Nedam's range of services is shifting towards modular products and
specific product-market combinations with greater added value.
Ballast Nedam creates enduring quality combined with lower life cycle costs for its
customers and society. http://www.ballast-nedam.com
