BancorpSouth Recognized Nationally For Fourth Consecutive Year For Promoting Savings
TUPELO, Miss., July 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- BancorpSouth Bank (NYSE: BXS) was recently recognized for the fourth consecutive year for its efforts to help customers save.
The bank was awarded the 2018 America Saves Designation of Savings Excellence, which is presented annually to financial institutions that make extraordinary efforts to encourage saving during America Saves Week/Military Saves Week and succeeded in encouraging individuals to open and add to wealth-building accounts.
"Spreading awareness about the importance of savings is a critical step in creating financial security," said BancorpSouth Chairman and CEO Dan Rollins. "Studies show that more than half of Americans don't have enough savings to cover $1,000 in unplanned expenses."
America Saves Week, which is coordinated by America Saves and the American Savings Education Council, is an annual opportunity for organizations, like banks or credit unions, to support good savings behavior by encouraging people to evaluate their savings status and set goals.
For the savings campaign, BancorpSouth did a variety of initiatives to promote savings across its eight-state footprint, such as financial education workshops and presentations, in-branch America Saves Week flyers and displays, resources on its website, social media posts and more.
"We impacted 670 individuals with more than 50 workshops and reached countless others on social media," Rollins said. "It's an honor to be recognized for a fourth-consecutive year. This award is the result of our continued commitment to improving the financial future of individuals throughout our communities."
According to America Saves, only two in five American households report good or excellent savings progress.
