Bank of the West Classic Opens July 31, Bringing Four Grand Slam Winners to Stanford

SAN FRANCISCO, July 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Bank of the West has announced a star-studded lineup in one of the premier women-only professional tennis tournaments globally when the Bank of the West Classic kicks off from July 31 until August 6, 2017. The tournament is part of the U.S. Open Series, the five-week summer tennis season that links seven North American hard-court tournaments to the U.S. Open, final Grand Slam of the year.

Headlining this year's Classic will be four former Grand Slam winners alongside emerging U.S. stars in the women's professional ranks. Maria Sharapova, five-time Grand Slam Champion, returns to the Bank of the West Classic as a main-draw wildcard for the first time since 2011 in her fourth appearance at the tournament, and will be competing in the U.S. for the first time since the March 2015 Miami Open. Also participating in this year's tournament is Petra Kvitova, two-time Wimbledon singles champion and ranked No. 14 in the world. This year is Kvitova's first appearance at the Classic.

The field includes several of the world's top players, including a former World No. 1, four Grand Slam champions and some of the world's top young talent, including:

2017 Wimbledon champion Garbiñe Muguruza of Spain, ranked No. 4 in the world
U.S. rising phenom Madison Keys, ranked No. 16 in the world
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia, ranked No. 18 in the world
Ana Konjuh of Croatia, ranked No. 21 in the world
U.S. Bay Area-native CiCi Bellis, ranked No. 43 in the world

The tournament will once again be held at Stanford's Taube Family Center, located at 625 Campus Drive. The quarterfinal, semi-final and final rounds will be broadcasted on ESPN2 from August 4^th through August 6^th.
