SYRACUSE, N.Y., July 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bankers Healthcare Group, the leading provider of financing solutions for healthcare professionals, would like to congratulate its team for finishing 10th place in the 4th annual Gillie Girl Triathlon sprint relay held on July 19, 2015 at Veterans Memorial Park in Camillus, NY. A record number of 427 participants completed the race.
The race benefits the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of Central New York. This year's event raised $20,000 for breast cancer research, increasing the four-year impact to a total of $80,000.
BHG Creative Director Karanya Aksornkoae started the race strong with a 21:04.5 800-meter swim. Then the bikers took off for their 14-mile ride, with Compliance Analyst Lisa Austin finishing in 53:39.7 for BHG. Finally, Accounting Clerk Maria Milanesi sealed the team's 10th place spot with her 25:20.2 5K run. BHG's overall finish time was 1:42:37.1.
"It was a great event to be part of—lots of team building," said Aksornkoae. "I live by the mindset of 'overcoming the challenge,' both in athletic competition and in my profession. I push my limits to be better than I was yesterday, last year and so on."
Positive mental attitude, or PMA, is one of BHG's core values championed by President and Co-Founder Bob Castro. Austin explained that this value, representing positivity, unity and work ethic, helped motivate the team. "Participating in this race gave me the opportunity to connect with BHG colleagues I don't normally interact with at work. Our goal was simply to finish the race with some PMA—and we did just that," she said. "I know I'm definitely looking forward to next year's Gillie Girl!"
The team was delighted to contribute to breast cancer research, a cause that is close to the hearts of many at BHG, including Milanesi. "In 2013, I lost my Great Aunt Hazel to breast cancer," said Milanesi. "Later that year, my grandmother was diagnosed with the same disease that claimed her sister's life. To say this cause hits close to home would be an understatement. I am so thankful BHG gave me the opportunity to participate in this year's Gillie Girl Triathlon."
