The 2016 Top 20 Independent Advisory Firm Ranking is based on assets under management, client retention, and the firms' ability to provide broad and consistent client service. Investment returns are not considered. The rankings are based on the universe of applications submitted to Barron's. Edelman Financial self-nominated the firm and submitted information to Barron's as requested. Barron's used the firms' SEC filings to review and consider this information, which resulted in the rankings on Aug. 27, 2016.
Previously, Edelman Financial Founder and Executive Chairman Ric Edelman was named the nation's #1 Independent Financial Advisor by Barron's three times, in 2009, 2010 and 2012.1
