Bauer Hockey Debuts Latest Helmet Technology

VANCOUVER, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Bauer Hockey, the world's leading manufacturer of ice hockey equipment, today unveiled the BAUER 9900 Helmet, the company's latest and most technically advanced elite-level helmet. The helmet is being worn by some of the game's top players currently competing in Vancouver.

The BAUER 9900 helmet features numerous technological advancements, including a FXPP Liner to better disperse impacts, a Biomechanical Shell for improved fit and exclusive PORON® XRD Technology for strategic impact management.

"The focus on helmet protection in other sports is at those highest energy impacts, but in hockey it is just as important -- if not more important -- to also help provide protection from the lower energy impacts that are more frequent during the course of play," said Ken Covo, Director of Research and Development, Bauer Hockey. The BAUER 9900 helmet was specifically created to help protect players from both low-energy and high energy impacts."

Built to absorb maximum impact without adding stiff, constricting bulk, the BAUER 9900 helmet is 10 percent lighter than Bauer's previous elite level helmet, the BAUER 9500. The Fused Expanded Polypropylene (FXPP) liner located in key impact zones adds to the overall protection while a dual-density HDPE shell combines both protective and flexible material, allowing the BAUER 9900 helmet to fit a wider variety of head shapes than a one-piece shell found in other helmets.

"Fit is the most important aspect when selecting a helmet -- if the helmet doesn't fit, it's not going to provide the proper protection," Desjardins said. "The BAUER 9900 features a two-piece shell with tool-less adjustment and a patented occipital lock to provide a better, more personalized fit for a wider variety of head shapes."
