Bayer calls on all chatty cat owners to share the secrets behind feline well-being
SHAWNEE, Kan., Sept. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer HealthCare Animal Health's Advantage® II for cats today launches the Chatty Cat Challenge, an opportunity for cat owners to tell the world what their cats would say are the secrets to their health and happiness.

"Bayer HealthCare recognizes that two of the keys to managing feline health are regular veterinary care and year-round use of a monthly flea preventive," said Dave Van Brunt, vice president, Companion Animal Business Unit, Bayer HealthCare's Animal Health division, North America. "There are other things that contribute to feline well-being, but cats aren't chatting about them, so we need owners to help give their cats a voice."
If your cat could talk, what would she say makes her healthy and happy? Perhaps it's a toy, special food, or protection from fleas. Since cats can't talk, the Advantage® II for cats Chatty Cat Challenge asks owners to submit a photo, meme or video of their cat, along with a 100-word (maximum) narrative, that reveals the secrets to keeping their cat healthy and happy. Entries made on www.ChattyCatChallenge.com will be accepted through September 30, 2013. All entries should be created from the cat's point of view. Submissions meeting the entry criteria will be posted on www.ChattyCatChallenge.com and a public vote will determine the top ten finalists. Nine finalists will each receive a one-year supply of Advantage® II for cats and a premium cat carrier.
From among the top ten finalists, the grand prize winner will be chosen in November by a three-member panel of feline aficionados, including: Dr. Ilona Rodan, DVM, DAVBP, ABVP (Feline), former president of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP); Abbie Moore, executive director, Adopt-a-Pet.com; and Cristiano von Simson, DVM, MBA, director of Veterinary Services at Bayer HealthCare Animal Health division, North America. The grand prize winner will receive a three-year supply of Advantage® II for cats, a premium cat carrier and an iPad mini™.
The Chatty Cat Challenge is sponsored by Advantage® II for cats, a monthly topical flea preventive that kills fleas through contact. Fleas don't have to bite your cat to die. A single flea can bite up to 400 times per day1, and Advantage® II helps prevent misery-causing biting fleas.

"AAFP is excited to be part of Bayer's Chatty Cat Challenge because it enables owners to consider their role in ensuring the well-being of their cats," said Dr. Rodan. "AAFP recommends that preventive care exams for cats occur at least once yearly and more frequently for senior cats and those with chronic conditions."
"As North America's largest non-profit pet adoption website, Adopt-a-Pet.com is always looking for opportunities to underscore the importance of proper pet care," said Ms. Moore. "Bayer's Chatty Cat Challenge is a fun and engaging way of getting across a serious message: cats depend on us to keep them healthy and happy all throughout their lives."
