Become a Readiness School: Build Pathways to College & Career for Your Students
ESSEX, N.Y., Aug. 30, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A national nonprofit, College For Every Student (CFES), with a highly successful record of getting underserved students college and career ready, has launched a nationwide search for five schools to participate in a high-impact program.
Selected schools will engage students in CFES practices that provide an adaptable framework to build and strengthen a college-going culture, empower students through leadership development, and prepare students for the 21st century workforce.
This framework is detailed in the book recently published by Routledge, "College For Every Student: A Practitioner's Guide to Building College and Career Readiness," and available on Amazon. Co-authored by CFES CEO & President Rick Dalton and University of Michigan Professor Ed St. John, the book stresses the importance of educational uplift and provides guidance for educators and community leaders on expanding educational opportunities.
"Today, students need to be ready for both college and career," said Dalton. "Today's employers seek individuals already equipped with the Essential Skills, such as adaptability, problem solving, leadership and grit. The CFES model, outlined in the book, provides resources and tools to help educators ready their students."
The book and Readiness Awards are part of College For Every Student's initiative that will help one million low-income students attain college degrees by 2025.
Recipients of the Readiness Awards will receive on-site support, professional development, student trainings, access to CFES resources and join a network of educators.
Readiness Awards require that schools contribute 50% of the program cost or $15,000 annually. CFES will match this contribution each year.
To be eligible, applicants must be middle or high schools where at least 50% of the student population comes from low-income households. Readiness Awards will be announced on a rolling basis, beginning on October 1, 2016.
