FRESNO, Calif., June 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The "Take Me to Legendary Tuscany" Tour follows the journey of specially grown olives, from grove to mill to bottle in the making of Bellucci's Legendary Toscano Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The winner of the 4-day, 3-night trip, and his or her guest, will participate in harvesting olives from a small family grove and EVOO tastings to savor the range of flavors that come from rural Tuscany.
"We are looking to find the 'Rooties' out there — the kind of foodie who seeks out exceptional food that can be traced back to its origin and to a transparent value chain," said Gerard Jara, CEO. "People care deeply about where their food comes from, how it is made, and about the people responsible for making it. The world is ready to understand just how origin impacts the flavor of their EVOO. We are big fans of the great, fresh taste of Italian."
5 semi-finalists will be selected in a random drawing from among all eligible entries received throughout the promotion period. From among the 5 semi-finalists, the winner will be selected based on interest and passion in areas which include but are not limited to the following: sustainable farming practices, food traceability, Italian cuisine and extra virgin olive oil.
The new Bellucci Traceability App, featuring Rootie, also allows consumers to trace any Bellucci bottle to its mill of origin. It provides information that far exceeds what is available on labels. The app also allows users to learn more about the olive-growing regions of Italy and the growers whose life's work is dedicated to maintaining the heritage of many special varieties of EVOO.
Bellucci began selling Italian EVOO in the US last year. The majority owners of the brand are small growers in rural Italy who first joined together in cooperatives in the 1950s and 1960s. Their collective effort strives to ensure the viability of traditional non-industrial growing methods and the livelihood of small-scale olive growers. Due in large part to their farming practices, the land they cultivate is considered among the most pristine and well-preserved agricultural regions in the world. The Bellucci traceability program recognizes the wide-ranging contributions of the company's many members and supports the fair distribution of income along the entire value chain.
Bellucci Toscano is PGI certified, which guarantees its origin Tuscany. Made predominately from Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino olives, Toscano is rich in polyphenols. It's fruity undertones, peppery spice, and hints of artichoke and almond make it an unforgettable splash in a soup, over ripe tomatoes and fresh cheese. Toscano is also recommended for finishing for bruschetta, grilled vegetables and meats.
