Belly Names Fred Lee Vice President of Engineering
Fred will manage Belly's engineering team and help the company build upon its loyalty platform.
CHICAGO, April 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Belly, the leading loyalty platform, announced that it has named Fred Lee as Vice President of Engineering. In this role, Lee will continue to grow Belly's Engineering Team while maintaining the company's values around engineering as a craft and attention to detail around its products.
Prior to joining Belly, Lee was the CTO at leading fin-tech company Enova which has one of the world's largest deployments of Ruby on Rails and employs over eleven hundred people. In this role, Lee managed a team of more than two hundred and was in charge of all company technology including engineering, infrastructure, IT and data. With over $760 million in revenue in 2013, Enova announced plans to spin out of parent company Cash America Inc. and IPO later this year.
"I cannot wait to join Belly's team and work alongside its world-class engineers," Lee said. "Not only is their technology and culture fantastic but they also have the right product and model to have a huge impact."
"Fred is a valuable addition to our team," said Craig Ulliott, CTO and Head of Product at Belly. "His many years of experience scaling engineering teams while maintaining the core culture will be crucial as Belly expands."
Last week Built in Chicago named both Lee and Ulliott as two of the 10 Chicago CTOs to watch, reinforcing Belly's emphasis on building the smartest and brightest engineering team in the industry.
Belly's primary technologies include an SOA platform written in Ruby around the Napa micro framework, iPhone and Android applications, merchant-facing management portals based on the Angular framework and its HTML5 merchant application which sits on counters at more than 7,000 businesses nationwide.
Although Belly has always been a loyalty platform, rewards are only one part of the company's mission to create and enhance digital connections. Belly's Engineering Team is an integral part of this evolution.
Prior to his position as CTO at Enova, Lee was Director of Web Strategy at Vail Systems and Development Manager at The Indianapolis Star where he adopted Ruby and oversaw the construction of their SOA platform. Lee received a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering at Purdue University and a Juris Doctorate at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
