"More and more companies and organizations are finding that their customers are interested in the environment and prefer to deal with those who are like minded," said William Rice, President of the Web Marketing Association.  "Companies and organizations are now using online tools such as websites to demonstrate to their constituents their commitment to green policies and practices. This is why the environmental category was recently added to the WebAward program – to recognize those organizations who are leading the way in developing environmentally themed websites."

"One of the most impactful and cost-effective ways for companies to communicate their green initiatives is through the Web," said David Clarke, Founder and Managing Partner of BGT Partners, a leading global interactive agency. "The most progressive companies are using the Internet to create awareness of their environmental activities in a financially viable manner."

Web sites are judged on seven criteria including design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copy writing and ease of use. Each WebAward entry is judged against other entries in its industry category and then against an overall standard of excellence.

All events entrants benefit from receiving valuable feedback in terms of their specific scores compared against the average scores for their industry. They also may receive specific comments from the WebAward's professional judging panel on their Web site development efforts.

Winners of a WebAward in the events category will also receive:

  • Image plaque or certificate of achievement
  • Increased visibility for their company
  • Marketing opportunity to promote the company website to the media
  • Links to your site from the highly ranked WebAward site to help SEO
  • Admiration of peers, friends and co-workers

Each year the Web Marketing Association names the Best Environmental Website based on the scores submitted by the competition judges. 2009 was the first year this category was offered and the winner was BLITZ Agency for Starbucks Shared Planet Web Site.

The 2010 WebAwards are sponsored by the following leading organizations: BGT Partners, Burst Media, PR Newswire, AllBusiness, ExactTarget, ad:tech conferences, Internet World UK, Search Engine Strategies, Webmaster Radio, and Website Magazine.
