Best-selling Author Chetan Bhagat Takes on a Fitness Challenge

"Fitness is the biggest gift you can give yourself," writes India's most well-known English author, Chetan Bhagat, in the May issue of Men's Health magazine. Bhagat shares his experience of partnering with Reebok to see what happens if a celebrity, who is not expected to be fit for his profession, takes on a unique fitness challenge.

Bhagat lets the MH reader into a 100-day regulated fitness programme, the gains of which he also shared on his Facebook account. "It was exciting because not only was it a chance to get fit but was a challenge outside my comfort zone. However, the risks were worrying. We could get it wrong. If I didn't show any results, the brand's as well as my reputation would be at stake," he writes.

But like any regular guy, Bhagat felt like quitting midway. And even though he lost five kilos (78kg to 73kg), added muscle (3%) and lost fat (5%), he says the biggest benefit was something the numbers could never show.

"What the metrics don't capture is how I feel inside, I feel much better about myself and am far more confident in posing for the camera and attending public events," said Bhagat. He also tells readers that one can workout without any equipment and even while travelling. On his diet regimen, he says that even though it wasn't easy, it required awareness which although simple, is tough to sustain on a regular basis.

The author, known for his last release Half Girlfriend, ends with an advice Men's Health has always highlighted. "Only a balanced diet and a workout that builds muscle (weight training) can give the best results," said Bhagat. Addressing the MH reader, Bhagat says, "If others can get inspired by a 41-year-old trying to be fit while managing a hectic career," then this journey would be "worth it."

The May issue of Men's Health will hit the stands in the first week.
