MANHATTAN, N.Y., Feb. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Members of the United Steelworkers who work at B&H Photo Video's New York City warehouses will rally outside the retailers Manhattan superstore (420 9th Ave.) on Sunday, February 12th at 2pm in protest of the company's plans to close its New York City warehouses and re-locate to Florence, New Jersey. The move would displace as many as 375 workers at B&H's two Brooklyn warehouses.
B&H employees at the two Brooklyn warehouses recently voted overwhelming to join the United Steelworkers and were in the process of bargaining their first labor contract when B&H management announced the move. Workers believe that the company's decision to re-locate was motivated by a desire to avoid negotiating with the newly formed union.
The company's planned facility in New Jersey is more than 75 miles away from the current warehouses in Bushwick and Brooklyn Navy Yard, making it impossible for the workers—nearly all of whom rely on public transportation—to commute to the new location.
