SAN DIEGO, April 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- BioMed Realty today announced that Illumina, Inc. (NASDAQ: ILMN), a world leader in genomics focused on improving human health by unlocking the power of the genome, has signed a 10 year lease at BioMed Realty's i3 campus, a 316,000 square foot development currently under construction in the University Towne Centre (UTC) life science market of San Diego. i3 will serve as expansion of Illumina's headquarters, with move-in expected in July 2017.
The i3 lease agreement marks the third major lease for new construction that BioMed Realty and Illumina have completed within the last 15 months. Following completed build-to-suit lease agreements for 360,000 square feet at Lincoln Centre in Foster City, California, in, December 2014 and 155,000 square feet at Granta Park in Cambridge, U.K., in June 2015, the i3 lease brings BioMed Realty to a total of 831,000 square feet of premier laboratory and office space leased to Illumina in California and the U.K. in less than a year and a half.

Creating an atmosphere of connectivity, innovation and collaboration, the i3 campus will be comprised of three 100,000 square foot customizable buildings. The campus will include a variety of indoor and outdoor amenities, fuel cell energy generation, and operable windows. With these elements, i3 is being built not only to meet, but to surpass the requirements for LEED Platinum certification. The campus core and shell construction is expected to be completed in July 2016.
In addition to i3, BioMed Realty's UTC portfolio includes its Axiom campus, formerly known as Towne Centre Technology Park, which BioMed Realty purchased in 2015 and is redeveloping, and the adjacent UTC Campus @ Towne Centre, which BioMed Realty acquired in April 2016.
