Bloom Health Names New Chief Executive Officer
Health plan industry veteran Simeon Schindelman to assume role as founder Abir Sen departs
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Bloom Health announced today the appointment of Simeon Schindelman as the company's new chief executive officer-elect. Schindelman joins Bloom Heath from Minnesota-based health plan Medica, where as Senior Vice President of Commercial Markets he helped launch the insurer's defined contribution private insurance exchange -- My Plan by Medica, powered by Bloom Health.
Schindelman, who will start at Bloom on November 19, succeeds Bloom Health founder and CEO Abir Sen, who announced he will be leaving Bloom Health at the end of the year.
Prior to his time at Medica, Schindelman held several leadership positions at UnitedHealthcare, including president, chief financial officer and chief operating officer of small business.
"As I leave to pursue my next venture, it was important for me to find the person who would sustain the culture and the innovation that has made Bloom a market leader," founder and current CEO Sen says. "In Simeon we have the right person who will ensure that Bloom continues to take advantage of the huge market opportunity ahead of us."
"We are thrilled to welcome Simeon to Bloom Health at this critical time, as the defined contribution approach to benefits and the emergence of private insurance exchanges gain momentum among employers and health plans nationwide," said Jeff Tikkanen, the Bloom Board member leading the CEO search. "Simeon not only has extensive health plan operations experience, but he also has demonstrated unique and visionary leadership in the defined contribution space."
"I'm honored and excited to join the team at Bloom Health -- a company that has broken the mold on employee health benefits and, in the process, has inspired employers, employees and health plans across the nation to find ways to offer benefits that better meet the evolving needs of a variety of stakeholders," Schindelman says.
Today Bloom Health has sold defined contribution benefits for 132 employers, representing 108,000 lives. The Bloom Private Exchange Platform™ currently powers health plan exchanges for Medica, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Health Care Service Corporation and WellPoint. Bloom is licensed to sell business in all 50 states.
