On June 4, 2014, Minerals Technologies Inc. (MTI) announced that the following three former AMCOL executives have been elected as officers to the Company by MTI's Board of Directors: Gary L. Castagna, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Performance Materials; Patrick E. Carpenter, Vice President and Managing Director, Construction Technologies; and Michael R. Ecopetrol SA Analyst Notes
On June 16, 2014, Ecopetrol SA (Ecopetrol) reported that it has been granted a patent by the Colombian Trade and Industry Superintendence to an invention that it developed, which enhances mechanical pumping in hydrocarbon extraction. According to the Company, the invention, which is referred to as "Actuator mechanism for smooth rod shifter in mechanical pumping units," is made up of a device that improves the reliability of mechanical pumping units in the reservoir (known as rod pump), thereby reducing wear and prolonging service life. Ecopetrol stated that the patent is effective from June 8, 2012 to June 8, 2032 and is the fourth patent granted to the Company during this year. Commercial Metals Company Analyst Notes
On June 17, 2014, Commercial Metals Company (CMC) announced that on June 13, 2014, it has completed the transaction for the purchase of substantially all of the assets of Newell Recycling of San Antonio, LP located at 726 Probandt Street San Antonio, Texas through Structural Metals, Inc., CMC's wholly owned subsidiary. The Company added that the transaction is pursuant to a definitive Agreement for the Purchase and Sale of Assets by and among CMC, Newell Recycling and John R. Newell. Further as notified in the Company's release dated May 29, 2014 Newell Limited retains the Media Plant operation located at the site as well as the shredder operations of Newell Recycling in Eagle Pass, Texas. CMC stated that the acquisition of Newell Recycling continues the vertical integration of CMC by providing raw materials for its CMC Steel Texas location, creating a larger recycling presence in San Antonio, Texas, and providing an opportunity for continued growth of its recycling operations in Central Texas.
