Borders Extends Offer to Donate 10% of Sales to Gulf Coast Oil Spill Relief Efforts

ANN ARBOR, Mich., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- In a continued show of support for the Gulf Coast, Borders has extended by three days the period in which 10% of customer transactions will be donated to the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL) to aid in oil spill relief efforts. Now customers have until Thursday, June 17 to team with Borders to contribute up to $50,000 to the recovery efforts by visiting www.bordersmedia.com/coup/crcl.html to download a special voucher and present that voucher at any Borders, Waldenbooks and Borders Express store nationwide. (Borders.com purchases made using promo code CRCL6114B will also be counted toward the recovery efforts.)  Over the coming days and weeks Borders will add another layer of support by teaming with CRCL to recruit volunteers and host educational and informational sessions in select Borders stores.

According to the organization, more than 24,000 people from all over the world have signed up at www.CRCL.org to assist with oil spill recovery efforts. Up until recently, CRCL was focused on "thinking ahead of the oil," dispatching volunteers to clean up beaches and wetlands expected to be hit with oil. Now CRCL has also begun responding to areas where oil has made landfall and is moving to recruit, educate, train and mobilize volunteers.  Borders' donation will directly support these vital efforts.
