Boulder Sterilization Exec Speaks at Sterilization Summit 2025
-- Industry expert evaluates alternative sterilization methods --
BOULDER, Colo., Oct. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Jim Kasic of Boulder Sterilization will be a featured speaker at next week's Sterilization Summit USA 2025 in Anaheim, California.
Kasic is president and CEO of the Boulder BioMed family of companies, including Boulder Sterilization. Boulder BioMed is a group of expert contract consulting businesses providing all the services life sciences companies need to get their products to market. Boulder Sterilization provides quick-turn ethylene oxide (EO) and chlorine dioxide (CD) sterilization, final assembly and packaging services.
Speaker topic: Alternative sterilization methods
Kasic, a medical device sterilization expert, will present "The Growing Acceptance and Adoption of Alternative Sterilization Methods" Tuesday, Oct. 21. In his talk, he will cover:
- Accelerating sterilization validation processes: Impact on the product-development pathway
- Elimination of harmful residues, how to reduce community safety risks in processing
- Introduction of EO-to-CD conversion systems that enable cleaner sterilization pathways
Panel discussion: Optimizing sterilization processes
Kasic will also participate in a panel discussion on "Optimizing Sterilization Practices in Healthcare Organizations" Monday, Oct. 20. The panel will review:
- Replacement of outdated disinfection norms with sterilization-first protocols to reduce costs
- Multi-modal sterilization pathways for device returns and pharma preparation
- Reassessment of Spaulding guidance; advancement of sterile processing department safety under budget constraints
- Guidance to developers on validation, prototyping and optimization in sterilization design
- Evaluation of hospital sterilization gaps, risks and tech-driven strategies for efficiency
Given the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2024 ruling that put in place strong measures for EO commercial sterilization facilities, medical device developers used to sterilizing with EO are understandably concerned about its use and cost going forward, says Kasic. "Understanding EO alternatives, particularly chlorine dioxide, is critical for developments looking to speed their products to market while minimizing safety risks."
Sterilization Summit brings together healthcare leaders and sterilization experts to explore the latest technologies and innovations advancing patient safety and infection prevention. Participants share insights and discuss the latest advancements in sterilization as they work to create a safer, more sustainable future in healthcare.
