He has 10 years of experience in primary and long-term residential programs and has had successful tenure at academic institutions. Prior to coming to Bradford, Downs was the director of Substance Abuse Services at the University of Alabama. He received his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University with research and clinical interests in the study of substance abuse and addiction studies. He received his doctorate in human development and family studies from Michigan State University.
