#WalkAway Founder Launches Multi-Borough Campaign to Educate and Activate New Yorkers Against the Socialist Takeover
NEW YORK, July 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Brandon Straka, the founder of the viral conservative movement #WalkAway, has returned to his longtime home of New York City with one goal in mind: to save it. As a more than 20-year resident of NYC, Straka has seen the city's ups and downs — and now, he says, it's on the brink of disaster if Democratic Socialism is allowed to take hold.
President Trump met with Straka after praising his #WalkAway Campaign. Trump published a statement in 2019 saying, "Congratulations to Brandon Straka for starting something very special."

"The city I love, the city I've called home for most of my adult life, is being pushed toward the edge by a radical agenda that would destroy it from within," Straka declared. "I didn't walk away from the Left just to sit by and watch them turn New York into a socialist wasteland."
Straka has unleashed a bold, multi-pronged strategy to stop the spread of Democratic Socialism in NYC, with a special focus on exposing and challenging the policies of New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani — a self-described Democratic Socialist whose platform includes rent freezes, government-controlled transportation, and taxpayer-funded grocery programs.
Through a series of high-energy events, rallies, and community engagement initiatives, Straka and #WalkAway are hitting the streets of every borough to educate everyday New Yorkers on the realities and consequences of embracing socialist policies.
"New Yorkers need to understand what's really at stake," Straka said at a recent event. "This isn't compassion — it's control. It's not equity — it's economic collapse. Socialism is not the answer, and I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure it never becomes the future of this city."
As part of the campaign, Straka is mobilizing a growing team of passionate volunteers who are canvassing neighborhoods, knocking on doors, hosting tabling events, and talking directly with voters about the dangers of socialism. From Brooklyn stoops to Bronx intersections, Staten Island sidewalks to Harlem corners, the movement is gaining momentum with boots on the ground and facts in hand.
"This isn't about politics — it's about saving New York City," Straka told a crowd of supporters. "If Mamdani and others like him get their way, we're going to lose what makes NYC the economic and cultural heartbeat of the world."
Brandon Straka's return to New York isn't just symbolic — it's strategic. As one of the most powerful voices in the conservative movement, Straka's #WalkAway Campaign has changed lives across the country by encouraging disillusioned liberals to walk away from the radical Left and embrace personal freedom, individual responsibility, and traditional American values.
Since launching in 2018, the #WalkAway movement has amassed millions of followers, generated countless personal testimony videos from former Democrats, and hosted major rallies and educational events nationwide. Straka himself has appeared on nearly every major media outlet and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with leading conservative figures.
Now, he's putting his influence to work on the streets of the city he still calls home.
"This is personal," Straka said. "I'm not doing this from a studio in D.C. or a mansion in Florida. I'm here. I'm back. I'm walking the same streets I've loved for 20 years — and I'm asking New Yorkers to walk away from socialism with me."
Straka and #WalkAway will be holding rallies throughout the summer under the banner of The Rally Against Democratic Socialism, with the next major event already drawing hundreds of RSVPs from across the city. Volunteers can sign up to join the effort at WalkAwayCampaign.com/events, where they can also indicate their willingness to help canvass, table, and spread the word.
"This is about reclaiming NYC from radical ideologues who don't understand this city, who don't love this city, and who will ruin this city if we let them," Straka concluded. "We can't let them. I won't let them."
