Brazil's Federal University Of Pará Recognized For Leadership In Addressing Global Water And Sanitation Crisis
Enactus Teams Share Insights, Drive Business Innovation and Scale Positive Impact
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today the top four best-in-class student teams from around the world presented how they are using entrepreneurial action and business innovation to tackle the global water and sanitation crises in the World Water Race.
In the Water Race, Federal University of Pará in Brazil won for their Project Amana Katu, which is helping solve the "paradox of water in the Amazon River region" – 12% of the world's fresh water yet no potable water for millions living in the region. The project focuses on developing and distributing a low-cost rainwater harvesting tool. The business trains and employs at-risk youth to build and sell the rainwater systems through a digital application. To further impact, low-income families receive a donated system for every 5 systems sold.
They competed against Jesus and Mary College in New Delhi, India; Shri Ram College of Commerce in India and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies in India. The top teams and their country operations will be awarded funding to scale their project impact.
The Enactus World Water Race is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company, Dell Inc., Wells Fargo and Company, XPV Water Partners. The World Water Race teams presented to an executive panel of judges and an audience of 3,000 student, academic and business leaders.
The competition took place at Enactus World Cup 2018, the signature event for Enactus, a global non-profit with more than 72,000 student members, and features leading social innovation projects developed by Enactus student teams from 36 countries across 1,730 university campuses.
