LEESBURG, Va., Oct. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hummingbird Sports has unveiled "The Hummingbird," a soft-sided Girls' Lacrosse headgear that stands as the first headgear ever to pass the stringent ASTM Women's Lacrosse Headgear Standard WK36457. "The Hummingbird" is powered by Crash Cloud™ technology, the flagship offering of Windpact, Inc. Windpact, an up and coming technology company, aims to disrupt the sports and recreation helmet and protective gear market by deploying its patented Crash Cloud system with strategic host brand partners across a number of markets: from team sports to cycling and snow sports to military applications.
Historically, women's lacrosse has not required headgear, however, there is a heated debate about why female lacrosse players aren't required to wear head protection. To date, some US states (starting with Florida) have begun to require headgear, although, until now, no headgear existed that complied with the newly developed ASTM Women's Lacrosse Headgear Standard.
Windpact was founded by former All-Pro NFL cornerback, Shawn Springs who engaged an elite group of engineers and designers to bring the Crash Cloud concept to life. The Hummingbird will be the first commercially available product to boast Windpact technology, however, Windpact is currently partnering with firms in various industries to bring a suite of new products to market empowered with Crash Cloud technology.
The Windpact padding system is comprised of an assembly of non-explosive airbags called Crash Clouds that absorb energy through foam Wind Springs™ and disperse energy through restrictive Impact Vents™ before instantly recovering shape and performance with Refresh Vents.™ "The key differentiator of the Crash Cloud is that it is strain rate independent, meaning it adapts to the level of impact, whether low, medium or high energy," said Maurice Kelly, Windpact's Chief Innovation Officer. This technology has the potential to revolutionize the way helmets are designed and manufactured.
"Our mission," says Springs, "is to make safer products. Protecting an athlete or child from skull fracture while ignoring the concussion and traumatic brain injury epidemic is not acceptable. We need to do both." Windpact's goal is to become synonymous with superior impact protection by building an uncompromising brand that improves helmets and protective gear across markets.
