Maxa Technologies ('Maxatec') has released the new Pidion BI-500, an 'incredibly smart and energetic' rugged handheld barcode scanner into its fast growing portfolio of products for the Mobile Computing, EPOS and AIDC markets.
The new small and compact mobile device was developed following the success of the BI-300 advanced handheld scanner. The BI-500 is equipped with 1D Laser or 2D imager as well as having an optional RFID reader with GPS capability. Easy to use keys provide simple and easy operation, and with an IP54 rating, the BI-500 can withstand 1.5m drops to concrete and is sealed against rain and dust. Targeted at a number of markets including retail, transportation and logistics, healthcare, manufacturing and the public sector, the BI-500 brings new levels of smart and powerful functionality to barcode scanners.

The scanner has an OLED display with a 3-key keypad and has been designed predominantly for the field work environment ensuring reliability under difficult conditions, such as rain or dust. The device can also be used in batch mode, with GPS capabilities enabling location-based applications, such as post and parcel delivery.
The BI-500 comes with a standard 12 month warranty with optional PidionCare Comprehensive Maintenance Agreements for 1 to 3 years. Various accessories are also available, including cables, wrist strap and neck strap.
