Brian Ballard Weighs in on Florida's Education Future
The State of Florida is going through some serious changes within its educational institutions—prompting the response of leading state lobbyist Brian Ballard.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Aug. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- It is hardly unusual, in an election year, for municipalities and government institutions to undergo some changes, as lawmakers and elected officials try to entice potential voters into their fold. The State of Florida, meanwhile, has recently undergone some changes that go well beyond the realm of election year alterations. Many of these Sunshine State changes pertain to education; the State has made modifications to the way standardized tests are graded, and on top of that, Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson has tendered his resignation, less than a year into the job. This shake-up may seem like a sign that education is on uncertain ground in Florida, but long-time state lobbyist and political operative Brian Ballard says the reality is not nearly so simple—or so worrisome.
Ballard has responded to the Sunshine State's education shake-ups with a new statement to the press, in which he expresses optimism over the future of Florida education. "Florida has always been a state known for its rigorous standards of education, so it's understandable that some might look to these uncertain times with a level of skepticism," admits Brian Ballard. "However, it is important to remember that the field of education is constantly changing, and even as our nation entertains new ideas and undergoes policy changes, the state government also sees its share of changes. Ultimately, I believe these changes will lead to an even stronger state of education in Florida."
As a lobbyist, Brian Ballard has represented numerous educational institutions before the state's legislative and executive branches. On his client list, Ballard lists area universities as well as organizations like the Council of Florida Medical School Deans.
Regarding the changes to the way standardized tests are graded in Florida, Ballard simply affirms his belief in the state government's ability to put the interests of students first.
"Any changes that are made to standardized tests are ultimately made to ensure that students can learn and have the chance to succeed," says Brian Ballard.
As for the departure of Robinson, Ballard says it is a loss to the state, but not an insurmountable one. "He was more than qualified for the job and made good use of the resources he had at his disposal," Ballard confirms. "His presence at this level of government will be missed, but I am confident in Gov. Scott's ability to bring in new educators and administrators that will continue to lead Florida forward."
