BridgePath Scientific Makes a Large Donation to Frederick's First BioMakerSpace
FREDERICK, Md., Oct. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Community Enrichment Laboratory for Learning Sciences (CELLS) announced they received a significant in-kind donation from BridgePath Scientific. The donation will increase the productivity and efficiency of the CELLS BioMakerSpace, enabling it to expand educational programs while keeping costs low.
CELLS recently launched the first community biotechnology lab in Frederick County, Md, the CELLS BioMakerSpace, in partnership with and located at the Frederick Innovative Technology Center, Inc. (FITCI). BridgePath Scientific's generous donation of laboratory glassware, essential consumables for hands-on experiments, and small equipment will empower the volunteer-run organization to offer more internships, classes, open lab hours for exploration, and a membership program.
The donation has already significantly impacted the daily operations of the CELLS BioMakerSpace. It facilitated the support of an undergraduate intern and the training of a high-school student to develop and teach a two part educational workshop on molecule separation techniques. The workshop, titled "Color Detectives: Molecular Races," was designed for middle school students but also captivated parents who jumped in and completed their own set of experiments.
BridgePath Scientific's donation provided essential glassware and consumables necessary for the workshop. This allowed CELLS to offer this educational experience at a much lower fee than if they had to purchase all these materials. "Biotechnology workshops and classes can get expensive and out of reach for many people, due to the need for specialized equipment, consumables, and reagents," explained Dr. Paralanov, Founder and CEO of CELLS. "Our main goal is to spark the curiosity for life-long learning! I truly enjoyed watching the parents complete their own set of experiments side by side with their students, and everyone sharing their own 'Aha!' moments about the science behind the activity."
"We are grateful to partner with FITCI and receive this generous donation from BridgePath Scientific, enabling our mission to empower individuals of all ages and backgrounds to delve into Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) topics, especially emerging technologies like biotechnology," said Dr. Paralanov. "We are planning even more workshops with the donated materials and they will be announced on our calendar (https://www.cells4all.org/calendar) and Eventbrite page (https://bit.ly/CELLS_Eventbrite)."
"At BridgePath Scientific, we are proud to support initiatives that make hands-on science accessible to everyone," said Patrick Haley, Founder and CEO of BridgePath Scientific. "By contributing essential equipment and consumables to CELLS, we hope to help cultivate curiosity, inspire the next generation of scientists, and make STEAM learning both engaging and affordable for students and families in the Frederick community."
