Brigham Young University Wins 23rd Annual Deloitte FanTAXtic National Case Study Competition

Sixteen teams of students took part in national competition focused on tax business simulations

NEW YORK, Feb. 3, 2025  /PRNewswire/ -- A group of students representing Brigham Young University emerged as the winners of Deloitte's 2025 FanTAXtic national case study competition by delivering the top analysis on an issue-focused business tax case. This year's case challenged teams to evaluate the impact of a potential change in corporate income tax rate on the decision to operate a new business entity as a corporation or a partnership. Teams also were asked to calculate revised projections of taxable income based on different options for compensating owners versus providing dividend distributions, as well as incorporating the depreciation of business assets. The national finals were held Jan. 24-25 at Deloitte University, Deloitte's landmark campus for learning and leadership development in Westlake, Texas.

• First place team: Brigham Young University
• Second place team: Baruch College, City University of New York
• Third place team: University of Florida

Other participating teams included: Marquette University; San Diego State University; Southern Illinois University – Carbondale; University of Mississippi; University of Cincinnati; University of Massachusetts – Amherst; University of New Hampshire; University of San Diego; University of Tennessee – Knoxville; University of Utah; and University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Each of the 16 teams competing in the national competition secured victory in the Deloitte FanTAXtic contest within their respective U.S. regions. Prior to the final event, 72 teams from over 55 colleges and universities took part in regional qualifier events. Over 315 students participated, representing a 12% increase over 2024. This was driven by an uptick in participating universities, including 13 schools who participated in the competition for the first time.
