Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Shareholder and Firm Leader Mark R. Hornak to Serve as United States District Judge in Western PA

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC is proud to announce that Executive Shareholder and litigation and labor and employment lawyer Mark R. Hornak was confirmed today, by the Senate's unanimous consent, to serve as a United States District Judge for Western Pennsylvania.

Hornak joined Buchanan in 1982 as an associate after serving as a law clerk for a federal appeals court judge, and has spent his career serving the needs of both his clients and the firm. He has served as chairman of the firm's Labor and Employment Law Section, Hiring Committee, and Compensation Committee, and as a member of its Board of Directors, chairing its Conflicts Resolution Committee. Most recently, he served as one of three of the firm's Executive Shareholders.

Hornak was the solicitor of the Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, which owns PNC Park, Heinz Field, the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, and Consol Energy Center. He has represented municipalities and government officials in constitutional and civil rights litigation, and has advised public school districts on employment and education law matters. He has also focused on media and defamation law.
