Bullying Prevention Program Celebrates Year in Advocacy

BROOKLYN, N.Y., Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MySecuritySign's #TakeNoBullies campaign celebrates a year of success on its first birthday.  Supporting six schools, nine organizations, and countless individuals, #TakeNoBullies distributed over 6,500 cyber-smart stickers to prevent bullying across the nation.

The #TakeNoBullies initiative began in February 2013, connecting MySecuritySign with students, teachers, and the digital world. It emphasized the need for new levels of respect and compassion on social media where anonymity, cyberbullying, and rapid sharing often occur.

Mike Miles, creator of #TakeNoBullies, said, "We created the original sticker designs to imitate specific social networks and deliver a strong, eye-catching message to victims, bystanders, and bullies. Bystanders hold the key to stopping bullying, but oftentimes don't have the awareness or courage to stand up against the offender and protect the victim. We believe our stickers and buttons help empower those individuals."

The original designs share messages such as "Share the Likes" and "Think Twice. Snap Nice." There are 16 stickers in the collection.

#TakeNoBullies works with parent and internet safety advocate Sue Scheff. Scheff and MySecuritySign collaborated on a selection of articles on outlets such as The Huffington Post and Sue Scheff Blog. In addition, #TakeNoBullies has been featured in over 20 articles on Examiner.com, Parenting Today's Kids, and DrGreene.com. Topics include cyberbullying when school is out of session, the dangers of sexting, and librarians' involvement in cyberbullying protection.

#TakeNoBullies donated 4,200 stickers to nine organizations, including: NoBLE program at Beaumont Children's Hospital, National Crime Prevention Council, Say It 2 My Face, Deana's Educational Theater, "Submit" the Documentary, Educational Speaker Josh Gunderson, Sweety High, TalkEZY, and CyberWise. Additionally, #TakeNoBullies donates to schools around the nation.

Kara Watson, Librarian at Carrboro High School in North Carolina is one of the several schools that partner with #TakeNoBullies. Regarding the campaign, Kara Watson said, "The students here at Carrboro High love the stickers. The designs are clever and cool. Students always do a double take when they see them, which supports the idea to think twice before you do something hurtful online."

#TakeNoBullies hopes to continue growing in 2014, looking for new ways to combat cyberbullying.

Mike Miles said, "Our outreach with #TakeNoBullies isn't slowing down anytime soon. We plan to double sticker donations to 10,000 and support 20 new partnerships with schools and organizations in 2014."
