MIDLAND, Texas, Aug. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Burleson LLP, a full-service law firm devoted primarily to the oil and gas industry, will host a new seminar as part of its ongoing educational series on August 27 titled Operating Your Company Aircraft: Critical Things to Know Before You Buy and Take Off. It will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Midland Petroleum Club.
David Marshall, Of Counsel for Burleson's San Antonio location, will lead the complimentary event, which will include lunch. His talk will address a wide range of issues related to buying a jet or helicopter and key legal insights to know before filing the first flight plan. He will also cover what to do – and what not to do – in the event of an accident.
"There are a number of compliance matters clients should be aware of when it comes to acquiring, operating, and managing company aircraft," said Marshall, who has practiced aviation law for more than two decades since his 23-year career as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.
"Determining where the aircraft has been, whether or not the title is really clear, and if there are any liens from other countries are all essential steps buyers should take to protect against future legal risks. This session will bring clarity to those topics and will also address a number of other points aircraft owners should know before taking flight."
Marshall is a rated Airline Transport Pilot and Certified Flight Instructor with more than five decades and 4,300 hours of experience as a pilot. His legal practice focuses on all aspects of aircraft transactions, including selling, purchasing, leasing, and financing. He also counsels clients in regulatory matters related to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and International Revenue Service.
The event is part of the firm's Trends, Terms, and Lessons Learned series, which is designed to encourage open discussions on significant issues impacting the energy industry and other sectors served by Burleson.
