SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Codenvy, the first automation platform for developer environments, announced the appointment of Byron Sebastian to its Board of Directors effective September 2014. Sebastian is a veteran technology executive with over 15 years' experience running platform businesses. Most recently he was EVP and leader of Salesforce.com's platform business, which he joined after serving as CEO of Heroku until its acquisition.
"We are extremely pleased to welcome Byron to Codenvy's board of directors," said Tyler Jewell, Founder and CEO of Codenvy. "Byron shares with Codenvy a passion for cloud development and our vision for a world without configuration for developers. His experience and success in the cloud platform market will be key as we look to the next phase of our growth - taking our product from its base of 150,000 users, to the enterprise."
Codenvy unifies and automates the creation of projects, plug-ins, dependencies, builders and runners so teams can focus on developing code, not configuring environments. This Docker-based strategy saves developers nearly 50% of their time, allowing them to focus more on application security, scalability, and functionality rather than manual configuration and maintenance of developer workspaces.
Codenvy recently joined IBM, Pivotal and SAP in leading the new Eclipse Cloud Development (ECD) project, donating the Eclipse Che open source project that contains a kernel and an Eclipse RCP-style plug-in architecture for orchestrating the provisioning of SaaS developer environments.
There are more than 18 million software developers worldwide yet less than 25 percent are developing for the cloud today(1) and a tremendous amount of work to do to realize the full potential of the cloud in application development, particularly in the enterprise," Sebastian said. "I am super excited about Codenvy's team, approach, technology and most importantly the company's maniacal focus on developer productivity and ease."
Sebastian joins current board members Benjamin Mestrallet, Founder and CEO of eXo Platform, and Codenvy Founder and CEO Tyler Jewell.
