Caesarstone To Support Mike Kelley Retrospective Exhibition At MOCA, Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, March 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Luxury quartz countertop manufacturer Caesarstone is pleased to announce its support of the upcoming exhibition, Mike Kelley at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles from March 31-July 28, 2014.

As a supporter of design and the arts, Caesarstone was eager to partner with MOCA for the acclaimed Mike Kelley exhibition and to celebrate MOCA's 35^th Anniversary. The exhibition will conclude its worldwide tour in Los Angeles after being shown at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Centre Pompidou in Paris, and MoMA PS1 in New York City.

For the Los Angeles presentation, Caesarstone is a proud sponsor of MOCA's Leadership Circle Brunch and Members' Opening Day on Sunday, March 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. respectively. A strong attendance is expected from the local art and cultural communities.

The Mike Kelley exhibition Members' Opening Day will offer a first look at the highly anticipated exhibition, and will feature a special presentation of Pansy Metal/Clovered Hoof, originally created in 1989 as a collaboration between Mike Kelley and Los Angeles-based choreographer Anita Pace. Dancers Beau Dobson, Erica Carpenter, Jos McKain and Lindsey Lollie will be clad in silk scarves designed by Kelley and will perform on a fashion runway-style ramp to Orgasmatron by British heavy metal band Motorhead. There will also be a musical performance by former Sonic Youth front-woman Kim Gordon and artist Jutta Koether, both longtime friends of Kelley's.

A one-of-a-kind 16-foot Caesarstone quartz bar has been specially fabricated for MOCA's 35th Anniversary Gala and Leadership Circle Brunch, which takes place at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles. The Caesarstone bar featuring their Concrete surface, will serve as a stunning focal point for both events.

The upcoming retrospective, the largest exhibition of Kelley's work to date, will feature over 250 pieces ranging from drawings, sculptures, paintings, performance, photography, music and video, and is organized at MOCA by curator Bennett Simpson. Regarded as one of the most influential artists of our time, Mike Kelley (1954–2012) produced a body of deeply innovative work mining American popular culture and both modernist and alternative traditions—which he set in relation to relentless, dark, and delirious examinations of self and society.

The exhibition will open on March 31, 2014 and run through July 28, 2014 at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA and MOCA Grand Avenue.
